Artist Questions:

General Questions:

Q: How much does APOLLOTUNES cost?
FREE but you can upgrade to access premium features.

Q: How much do I make for each song sold?
A: After expenses (Credit Card transaction fees), we split profits 50/50. You'll make a minimum of $.36 per song or $4.70 per album. (view payment table)

Q: When I sign up to APOLLOTUNES.com how long does it take before I can start selling my music online?
A: Approximately 5 minutes.

Q: Am I in a contract with APOLLOTUNES when I sign up?
A: No, you are free to do what you want, you are the boss and can take your music down anytime you want.

Q: How many songs can I upload to my player for free? To the store?
A: Free users can upload a max of 5 songs to their player, while premium members can upload upto 10 songs to their player. Free members are charged a $5 fee per album, while Premium members can upload an unlimited amount of albums to the store.

Q: Do you encode the songs with any DRM? (Digital Rights Management)
A: No, This was a very long and hard decision to make, but we decided that would be best if songs were not encoded with DRM as to ensure compatibility with all iPods/Computers/MP3 players. We are not worried about P2P networks as only major artists are traded on such sites and APOLLOTUNES.com is geared more towards independent music.

Q: Do you support videos as well?
A: Very soon! Videos take a LOT of server space and we are currently looking for a place that can handle the bandwidth and space needed to house video. Drop us an email if you have a spare server on a backbone with about 3 terabytes of space lying around.

Q: Do you only support music?
A: No, we support any type of audio entertainment, Poetry, Comedy etc…

Q: What file format do you use for audio?
A: Right now we support MP3 from 192k to 320k. This ensures compatibility with all mp3 players. We will soon be adding AAC (MP4) so users will have a choice on which to download.

Q: My music sounds like the chipmunks or doesn't play at all in the APOLLOTUNES player, what is wrong?
A: Make sure your mp3 files are encoded with a bitrate of 192kbps and a sample rate of 44.1kHz. Check out our mp3 tutorial for more info.

Q: Are there any hidden costs?
A: The only other cost is a $5 fee per album for FREE band accounts to sell their album in the store.

Q: Can I upload without being a Premium Member?
A: Yes. You can upload to the profile player but a $5.00 fee per album is necessary to upload to the store.

Q: I keep getting an error message when I try to purchase songs, what am I doing wrong?
A: There are two possible error messages you will see when completing an order: • Card Declined - Your credit card information was declined by our processor. Check the card details you entered for any errors. • Error Processing Payment - This usually means that you tried to place a new order too soon after your last one. Please wait a minimum of 2 minutes between transactions. This is a fraud prevention feature of our software.

Q: How do I upload music?
A: First of all, your music has to be converted to mp3, and at least 192kbps. Once you “Sign In” it will take you to your home page. This is where you can “View Account” Your “View Account” button is located in the upper right corner on the site. This is where you can “Edit Your Profile.” That includes Genre, Formed On, Members, Sounds Like, Bio, and also where you upload “Tracks” to your music player. This is the player that will be on your “Profile” for anyone to see and download the tunes for free. Remember that the store is different. In the store is where bands sell their music. That is located in the store folder. That should do it.

Hint: I found that itunes has a FREE music converter that works great! Just go to www.itunes.com and download itunes 6 for FREE. After you have downloaded itunes, open it up. You can drag and drop your wave files right into your itunes player. For the conversion go to edit, then preferences, then the advanced tab, then click the Importing Tab right next to the burning tab. On CD Insert: should read Show Songs. Import using: mp3 Encoder. Setting: click to Custom. A box will show up for the mp3 encoder. Stereo Bit Rate: 192kbps. Quality: High. That should do it.

Q: What is the Apollo SHop?
A: The Apollo Store is an Online Store where bands can upload their albums for purchase. Fans can buy the entire album or singles.

Q: I receive a warning that says “You are about to be redirected to a connection that is not secure.” when I sign in or make purchases, what is this?
A: This is a documented bug in Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1. Your login/credit card information is still sent to us on a secure connection, so do not worry. This is out of our control as it is a problem with the browser itself. The Microsoft Knowledge Base article detailing how you can correct it here.

Q: I forgot my password
A: You need to use the Password Recovery Tool. Navigate to our Sign In page and click the 'Forgot Password' link. An e-mail will be sent to the account you provided when you signed up. By clicking the link, it will reset your password temporarily, and at that point you will have to log in and change your password manually in your profile administration page.

Q: I forgot my username
A: Your username must be a valid e-mail address. Try logging in using any e-mail addresses you currenly use.

Q: I am having problems uploading images. What am I doing wrong?
A: First, make sure the image you are attempting to upload is in one of the formats ApolloTunes accepts (.gif, .jpg). Next, make sure the filename is simple and short, with no spaces or funny characters. "Image.jpg" is a good filnename "Me at the beach! drinking some Coors~~.jpg" is probably not going to work. Next, make sure the filename is less than 600k. We do not allow images over 600k. If none of these things work, it's possible that the image is corrupted. Luckily there is an easy solution. Go to http://www.download.com/ and download a copy of the software program IrfanView. IT'S FREE and you can use it to resize images so they're less than 600k, or resave images that may be corrupted. Once you have downloaded and installed IrfanView, simply run the program, open your .gif, or .jpg image, and resave it as another version (example: in IrfanView, open file named pic01.jpg, and resave it as pic01b.jpg). Then, simply return to the site and upload your newly resaved image.

Q: How do I upload my profile picture?
A: Make sure that you actually checked the confirmation email we sent to your email address that you used to sign up. Once you confirm through there, sign in to your account. That will take you to your home page. Click the view account tab located in the upper right hand corner of the page. Then click Edit Profile. Your account info will then come up. Click the My Account tab. Here is where you upload your photo. It will read Update Avatar. Click the Browse Button and choose a file. That’s it.

Q: How do I upgrade my account?
A: First you have to create a FREE account. Once that is confirmed, sign in. That will take you to your home page. Click the “View Account” tab located in the upper right hand corner of the page. You’ll see an “Upgrade account” link right next to your profile picture. Click the link and enter your payment information.

Q: How much does it cost to upgrade my account?
A: The fee is $20.00 a year. This also automatically enrolls you in the Profit Sharing Incentive Program and ALL the PREMIUM MEMBER benefits.
